This policy explains what personal information Better in Belize collects through betterinbelize.com, why we collect it, who helps us handle it and the choices you have.

Who we are

Better in Belize is an eco-community of residential lots and homes in the Cayo District of Belize. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean the Better in Belize team that runs this website. You can reach us at [email protected] or on WhatsApp at +1 (519) 241-1230.

What we collect and why

  • Contact form: your name, email address, phone or WhatsApp number (optional), what you are interested in and your message. We use these to answer and follow up on your enquiry.
  • Lot reservation form: the lot number you select, your name, email address, phone number and message. We use these to respond about that lot and explain the next steps.
  • Discovery Stay booking request: your name, email address, WhatsApp number, country of residence, travel dates, the number of adults and children travelling and the children’s ages, and your preferences for the stay (such as length of stay, accommodation, interests and any dietary requirements or other requests). We use these to plan and confirm your visit.
  • Owner-financing quiz: the quiz is provided by ScoreApp, a third-party quiz service, and is shown inside our page. Answers and contact details you enter there are collected by ScoreApp and made available to us so we can share your results and follow up.
  • Emails and WhatsApp messages you send us, including anything you choose to include in them.
  • Usage information: through Google Analytics we see which pages are visited, how visitors arrive, the type of device and browser used, an approximate location based on the IP address, and events such as finishing the quiz. This helps us improve the website.
  • Technical and security information: our web server and Cloudflare record IP addresses, browser details and the pages requested. This keeps the site running and blocks spam and attacks.

Please do not send passport, banking or other highly sensitive information through the website forms. If a purchase or reservation needs documents like these, ask us for a suitable way to send them.

Cookies and similar technologies

Google Analytics uses cookies to tell visits apart and measure how the site is used. Cloudflare may set cookies that are needed for security and to tell people from automated traffic, and our forms use Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks your browser to stop spam. The WhatsApp chat button may remember in your browser whether its prompt has already been shown to you.

Some pages include content from other services: maps from Google Maps and OpenStreetMap, YouTube videos, the ScoreApp quiz, fonts served by Google Fonts, and a weather display that requests the current Belize weather from Open-Meteo. When these load, your browser connects to those providers, which receive your IP address and may set their own cookies under their own policies.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Google also offers a browser add-on to opt out of Google Analytics. Blocking some cookies may stop maps, videos or forms from working.

Service providers

We use a small number of providers to run the website and handle enquiries:

  • Google Cloud, which hosts our web server;
  • Cloudflare, which delivers and protects the website and provides the Turnstile spam check;
  • Brevo, which delivers the emails our website sends, such as form notifications and automatic replies;
  • Google Analytics and Google Search Console, which measure website use and search performance;
  • Web3Forms, which receives Discovery Stay booking requests and forwards them to us by email;
  • ScoreApp, which runs the owner-financing quiz;
  • WhatsApp, if you choose to contact us there; and
  • the email and customer-relationship (CRM) services our team uses to receive and keep track of enquiries.

These providers handle information under their own terms and privacy policies. Some of them are based outside Belize, including in the United States and Canada, so your information may be processed in those countries.

Sharing

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with the members of our team and the real-estate professionals working with us who handle your enquiry, with the providers listed above, and where the law requires it or it is needed to protect our rights, our visitors or the website.

How long we keep it

Our website does not keep a database of form submissions; forms are sent to us by email. The website’s record of sent emails is kept for about two weeks. Enquiries and correspondence are kept in our email and CRM for as long as we reasonably need them to answer you, follow up, and keep records of any reservation, purchase or stay. After that we delete them or remove the details that identify you. Analytics data is kept according to our Google Analytics settings.

Your choices

You can ask us to show you the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. You can also ask us to stop contacting you at any time. Email [email protected] and we will respond as soon as we reasonably can. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we may have to keep some records, for example of a completed reservation or purchase, where the law requires it. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under local law.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections, restricted administrator access, spam and abuse protection, and monitoring of our server. No website or email system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

This website is meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The only information about children we ask for is the number and ages of children travelling with an adult who requests a Discovery Stay.

Other websites

Our pages link to other websites and services, such as WhatsApp, Google Maps, YouTube and partner businesses. Their own privacy policies apply when you use them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our website or the services we use change. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
